Following a call out in October 2024, we’re excited to announce that Cobalt has been selected as the operator for the new creative workspaces in Grainger Market, part of the wider Creative Central NCL initiative.
Cobalt is a community interest company with a strong track record of inclusive cultural programming, community consultation, and creative workspace management.
With community at the heart of all they do, they strive to make culture affordable and accessible for all. This ethos brings a collaborative, grassroots approach that aligns with our ambition to make the space at Grainger Market a vibrant hub for creativity and connection.
As operator, Cobalt will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the creative workspaces, curating public events and exhibitions, and fostering an inclusive, sustainable creative community.
Their appointment marks a significant milestone in the Creative Central NCL aim to increase the amount of affordable artist studios in Newcastle city centre.
The space, which will open in Summer 2026, will support artists, makers, and cultural practitioners while inviting the public to engage with creativity in new and meaningful ways.
