We’re looking for applications from creatives and artists who want to collaborate with The Common Room on a creative commission for The Late Shows 2024.
The Common Room
The Common Room is a charity, formed to lead the restoration of Neville Hall in central Newcastle, focusing on the future of innovation and engineering from its historic roots as the Mining Institute.
The building is a historic and listed venue with a range of spaces including the impressive Wood Hall and the Lecture Theatre alongside a series of interesting corridors, staircases and in between spaces audiences will be invited to explore.
For The Late Shows in 2024, The Common Room will be inviting audiences into the building experience its spaces, take part in some bandeoke in the 5|Quarter café bar alongside this brand-new commission.
We are particularly interested in commission ideas that are future-facing, taking the themes around innovation, sustainability, and science rather than being too focused on the past.
A playful approach that creates a juxtaposition with the historic surroundings would be welcomed.
We are interested in commissioning visual, or installation based artforms rather than performance or sound-based work (if you’re looking for this type of commission, take a look at the other open opportunities for The Late Shows).
There is a commission budget of up to £3,000 available.
